- One Railway (formerly known as Anglia Railways).
‘one’ is the train operator providing services to London Liverpool Street and the East of England. It operates train services from London Liverpool Street to:- Shenfield, Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester, Clacton, Walton-on-Naze, Harwich, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Peterborough, Norwich, Ilford, Romford, Upminster, Gidea Park, Brentwood, Shenfield, Billericay, Wickford, Southminster, Southend Victoria, Cambridge, Chingford, Enfield Town, Hertford East, Tottenham Hale and Stansted Airport. Plus local services starting and finishing in Norwich and Ipswich, including all stations to Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Sheringham, Felixstowe, Cambridge and Peterborough and services to Harwich International and the Sudbury branch from Marks Tey. The ‘one’ franchise is owned by National Express Group.
- Arriva Trains - Train services in Wales.
Arriva Trains Wales is part of the Arriva Group, a leading provider of passenger transport in Europe.
- Chiltern Railways.
Chiltern Railways is owned by M40 Trains. All shares in M40 Trains are owned by John Laing plc through Laing Rail Ltd. Since winning the franchise in 1996, Chiltern Railways has run scheduled passenger train services along the M40 corridor between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone to Aylesbury via Amersham along the London Underground Metropolitan line. In 2002, it extended its operations as far as Kidderminster and in 2004 it took over train services between Stratford-upon-Avon and London.
- Cross Country Trains.
The new franchise for Cross Country Trains is being transferred to Arriva Trains from Sunday 11th November 2007. This new website gives details of services, fares and routes, including some changes to routes and services between the above date and December 2008. Cross Country Trains is part of the Arriva Group, a leading provider of passenger transport in Europe.
- C2C.
C2C is a small company in comparison to other rail companies, with only 26 stations in all, but it serves the local community well, taking you straight into London. Trains start at Shoeburyness and travel through the towns of Southend, Basildon, Upminster and Barking and into London Fenchurch Street on the mainline, whilst the Tilbury loop takes you from Pitsea, through Stanford-le-Hope, Tilbury, Grays, Rainham and Barking where you can carry on to Fenchurch Street. Not forgetting the Ockendon Branch line, where you will find Chafford Hundred for Lakeside Shopping Centre. The company is part of the National Express Group of companies.
- Docklands Light Railway.
The light railway network from Central to Eastern London Dockland area. Operated by Serco Docklands.
- East Midlands Trains.
East Midlands Trains is the name of the operating company, which runs trains in the East Midlands franchise area from November 2007. The East Midlands Mainline is the name for high-speed, long-distance service between London and the Midlands. East Midlands Connect is the name for regional trains in the East Midlands, the North and the North-west England. East Midlands Trains is part of Stagecoach Group plc, which also operates South West Trains, Sheffield Supertram and Manchester Metrolink – plus bus services in the United Kingdom and in the United States of America.
- English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS).
EWS is the dedicated rail freight operator in Britain and mainland Europe.
- Eurostar.
Rail services from London through the Channel Tunnel to Paris and Brussels.
- First Capital Connect Trains.
Trains connecting London - northwards towards King’s Lynn, Cambridge, Stevenage, Peterborough, Welwyn Garden City, Hertford, Bedford, Luton and St. Albans. Or southwards towards Sutton, Wimbledon, Tooting, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. This company is part of the First Group plc.
- Freightliner.
Freightliner Group Limited is dedicated to the movement of freight by rail.
- First Great Western Trains.
First Great Western operates high speed, commuter, regional and branch line train services across the former Wessex Trains, First Great Western Link and First Great Western routes. The company is part of the First Group plc.
- First TransPennine Express Trains.
First TransPennine Express runs 170 trains a day to and from the airport from across the North of England, including:- Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Darlington, York, Scarborough, Hull, Leeds, Huddersfield, Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Meadowhall, Doncaster, Sheffield, Barrow in Furness, Lancaster, Preston, Bolton, Manchester, Manchester Airport, Warrington and Liverpool. Also First TransPennine Express new service between Manchester Airport and Glasgow or Edinburgh starts on 9th December 2007. The company is part of the First Group plc.
- Gatwick Express Trains.
Provides direct train services between London, Victoria and Gatwick Airport. This franchise is owned by the National Express Group.
- Grand Central Trains.
Train services between Sunderland, Hartlepool, Eaglescliffe, Northallerton, Thirsk, York and London, Kings Cross, are now planned to start from Sunday 2nd December 2007, which will be operated by this company.
- GNER - Great North Eastern Railway.
Train services along the East Coast main line from Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh to London, Kings Cross via Newcastle upon Tyne, York and Peterborough. This francise is to be taken over by the National Express Group, which is due to commence from 9th December 2007.
- Heathrow Connect Trains.
Providing train services between London, Paddington, West London and Heathrow Airport.
- Heathrow Express Trains.
Providing direct train services between London, Paddington and Heathrow Airport.
- Hull Trains.
Direct daily services between Hull and London. This company is part of the First Group plc.
- Island Line.
The railway using old London Underground rolling stock on the Isle of Wight. Island Line is part of Stagecoach Group plc, which also operates East Midlands Trains, South West Trains, Sheffield Supertram and Manchester Metrolink – plus bus services in the United Kingdom and in the United States of America.
- London Midland.
London Midland is a new company. It brings together the former Silverlink County and most of Central Trains, in particular the West Midland regional services including the Snow Hill Lines and the Birmingham to Liverpool route. It also includes the Bedford to Bletchley and Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey branch lines. The company is part of Govia which is a joint venture between the Go-Ahead Group and Keolis, two substantial and successful transport companies in their own right.
- London Underground Trains.
News of London’s “tube train” services, planned engineering work, fares, Underground map, plus the London Transport Museum.
- Merseyrail.
The operator of local trains around Liverpool and Merseyside. This francise is operated by Merseyrail Electrics (2002) Ltd, a joint venture company between Serco and NedRailways. The new operator (branded Merseyrail) operates the Wirral Line and the Northern Line.
- Northern Ireland Railways (Translink).
“Translink” is the brand name of the integrated public transport operation of Citybus, Northern Ireland Railways and Ulsterbus. The three operating companies have retained their legal status.
- Northern Rail.
The operator of local train services in Northern England. This francise is operated by Northern Rail Ltd, a joint venture company between Serco and NedRailways.
- ScotRail, now known as First ScotRail.
Including most of the train services in Scotland. This company is part of the First Group plc.
- South Eastern Trains.
Providing local train services from London to the south east of England - into Middlesex, East Sussex and Kent. This company is part of Govia which is a joint venture between the Go-Ahead Group and Keolis, two substantial and successful transport companies in their own right.
- South West Trains.
Providing local train services in most of South West England, between London, Waterloo and the following places - Exeter, Guildford, Reading, Portsmouth and Weymouth. This company is part of the Stagecoach Group plc, which also operates East Midlands Trains, Sheffield Supertram and Manchester Metrolink – plus bus services in the United Kingdom and in the United States of America.
- Southern.
Southern provides services in South London and between central London and the South Coast, through East and West Sussex and Surrey, and parts of Kent and Hampshire. The company is part of Govia which is a joint venture between the Go-Ahead Group and Keolis, two substantial and successful transport companies in their own right.
- Stansted Express.
Train services between London, Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale and Stanstead Airport. Stansted Express is a brand of ‘one’. ‘one’ is the train operator providing services to London Liverpool Street and the East of England. The ‘one’ franchise is owned by the National Express Group.
- Tyne and Wear Metro.
The metro railway network, operated by Nexus, which operates services around Newcastle upon Tyne, North & South Shields and to Sunderland.
- Virgin Trains.
West Coast main line trains and Cross Country trains. Please note that the Cross Country train francise is taken over by Arriva Trains from Sunday 11th November 2007 but some Virgin Trains will operate jointly with Arriva Trains on some parts of those routes until Saturday 8th December 2007. Details of routes and fares for Cross Country Trains from Sunday 9th December 2007, will be now be included on the Cross Country Trains website, which is produced by Arriva Trains.
